Community Trails

Trail enthusiasts will delight in the extensive community trail system throughout Blackfalds connecting the community to Red Deer and Lacombe via the Trans Canada Trail.

For a detailed listing of community trails & recreational amenities see the Community Parks and Trails Map.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Abbey Centre holds the distinction of being the only place in Canada where the Trans Canada Trail (TCT) travels indoors. The TCT takes you from outdoors through to the second floor of the Abbey Centre and overlooks the Field House. Trail users may access this section of the Abbey Centre at no charge and experience the natural look and feel of this unique indoor trail.

Lacombe County Trails

Lacombe County is home to a number of parks, trails and public spaces for everyone to enjoy. The spaces listed below are located closest to Blackfalds.

Kuhnen Park

Kuhnen Park is ideally located adjacent to the Trans Canada on the east and Lacombe Lake to the north, it boasts 6.3 km of nature trails that wind their way through the forest. The property was donated to Lacombe County in 2014 by Frank and Rosalie Kuhnen. The intent of the donation was to ensure that this beautiful land would be kept as a natural area for public enjoyment today and in the future.

Kuhnen Park is located north of Blackfalds on Hwy 2A (follow the signs to the park).

Soper Natural Area

The land for the Mary & Cliff Soper Natural Area was donated by the Sopers in early 2017. Cliff, a Lacombe County Councillor from 2001 – 2013, was passionate about the environment and about creating natural spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy. The gifted land is approximately 25 acres, and is located east of Blackfalds. It will remain in its natural state and it will be open to the public for passive recreational purposes. Lacombe County has constructed a parking area for the Mary & Cliff Soper Natural Area leading to trails for everyone to enjoy.

Please note that the Town of Blackfalds is not responsible for these public spaces and if you encounter any issues with the parks, please contact Lacombe County at 403.782.8379, or report it through the myLacombeCounty app.
