Nothwest Stormwater Project

After many years of engineering work, environmental studies, public consultation, regulatory reviews, and appeals, the Town of Blackfalds moved forward with a significant infrastructure project that aligns with our Environmental Management Policy and supports sustainable community growth for both the Town and Lacombe County.

The NW Stormwater Project will form the foundation for current and future stormwater pond systems in the Town's northwest area. It is a critical step in enabling responsible development while ensuring the long-term management of both water quality and quantity. The system will help protect natural ecosystems, manage runoff effectively, and return treated water safely to the basin.

At the Regular Council Meeting on April 8, 2025, Council reviewed the project in detail and awarded the construction contract for the Northwest (NW) Stormwater Project to Northside Construction. 

Construction began in July 2025, with the majority of work taking place over the summer months. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
