Policing Committee Statement | Community Safety Update
Blackfalds, Alberta (June 11, 2026) – Community Safety Update
The Blackfalds Police Committee has received a number of inquiries and concerns regarding the recent public notification of a high-risk offender residing within our community. We understand the concern this situation has created for many residents, particularly parents, caregivers, and those responsible for vulnerable individuals.
The safety of our community remains our highest priority. We appreciate residents taking the time to share their concerns and advocate for the well-being of their families and neighbours.
Many residents have asked how release conditions/terms are determined and who decides where an offender may reside. It is important to understand that these decisions are not made by the Police Committee, the municipality, or local police services.
Release terms of probation are established through Canada's judicial and correctional systems and may be imposed by the courts, parole authorities, or correctional officials. These conditions can include restrictions on contact with children, access to certain locations, curfews, reporting requirements, treatment programs, and other measures intended to manage risk and protect public safety.
Local police are responsible for enforcing these conditions, monitoring compliance, and taking appropriate action if any condition is breached. Police do not determine an offender's sentence, release date, release conditions, or approved residence.
While neither the Police Committee nor the Town has the legal authority to remove an offender who is lawfully residing in the community under approved conditions, we remain committed to working with law enforcement to ensure public safety remains the highest priority.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity to police, and continue having age-appropriate conversations with children about personal safety, boundaries, and trusted adults.
We understand the emotions surrounding this matter and want residents to know that their concerns are being heard. The Blackfalds Police Committee remains committed to supporting public safety, community awareness, and open communication.

As the matters raised relate to decisions and authorities governed by the courts, and correctional services, and as the Blackfalds Policing Committee has provided clarification regarding its role and authority in this matter, we consider this issue addressed. While we understand and respect the concerns expressed by residents, the Committee has no legal authority to alter an offender’s court-imposed conditions. Accordingly, we will not be providing further responses on this matter unless there is new information directly related to the Committee’s mandate or responsibilities.
