Town of Blackfalds Introduces Mobile App
The Town of Blackfalds is very excited to announce the addition of a new mobile app to the Town’s official communication methods!
The mobile app initiative came from budget discussions with Council, suggesting new ways for the public, and visitors, to find information about the municipality easily and efficiently. It was also noted in the 2026 Budget survey responses that many residents found it difficult to find information on upcoming programming, events, news, etc.
Feedback was that some residents are moving away from social media, or some have a difficult time navigating the website, explained Mayor Laura Svab. As a result, a mobile app was explored in 2025 in hopes that this one-stop shop for Town information will assist residents in finding information they’d like to locate.
“Over the past few years, I've heard from residents who were disappointed to learn about community events only after they had already happened. We know that not everyone uses social media, and some residents have found the Town website challenging to navigate,” shared Svab. “The Blackfalds App will make it easier for residents to stay connected and access information whenever they need it. From community events to parks and trails to service requests and updates from Mayor and Council, the app puts Town information right at your fingertips. I encourage everyone to download the app and take some time to explore its features.”
The app not only has a user-friendly interface but also allows the Town to send non-invasive push notifications based on user preferences. No account needed, no personal information requested. The app allows for real-time emergency alerts, local news, events, programming and registration, community project information, waste and recycling schedules, career opportunities, and an easy way to report issues around town.
“We’re always looking for ways to better serve our community, and accessibility is a very important part of that. Launching the mobile app gives our residents a direct, user-friendly connection to local services, and we hope that this will bridge the information gap that residents are experiencing,” shared Chief Administrative Officer Kim Isaak. “Administration worked diligently in finding the app developer that worked the best for us and was within our budget. I invite everyone to download the app, test it out, and reach out to us with any feedback.”
Council approved the mobile app budget in late 2025, with a pricing of a $9,500 one-time set-up fee, and then a $3,025 annual subscription.
The mobile app is now live on both Apple and Android app stores for free!
