Blackfalds Council Approves 2026-2030 Strategic Plan
Blackfalds, Alberta (April 29, 2026) – As the newly elected Town of Blackfalds Council settles in for their four-year term, members have collaborated closely with Administration and CivicExcellence to develop a Strategic Plan that will guide municipal priorities through until 2030, keeping in mind the significant values for the municipality: accountability, collaboration, and compassion.
Through workshops and engagement sessions, Council identified four key priority areas:
- Economic Vitality and Community Prosperity
- Community Life, Safety, and Inclusion
- Leadership, Engagement, and Advocacy
- Sustainable Services and Infrastructure
With the
priorities established, Administration was directed to prepare an operational
plan designed to support Council’s Plan and includes goals such as business
attraction and retention, community safety, housing, communication, and public
engagement strategies.
Chief Administrative Officer Kim Isaak said that the collaborative process not only set a strong foundation for the years ahead but also set a positive expectation for how Council and Administration will work together in the future.
“Council and Administration really came together as a team to discuss the most important changes that can be made to better the community. With feedback from Council’s election campaigning, budget surveys, and suggestions we hear from residents throughout the year, I believe our four priorities give us a strong plan for the upcoming years,” Isaak remarked.
The 2026-2030 Strategic Plan was approved at the April 28 Regular Council Meeting, and, along with the operational plan, will help guide municipal decision making, resource allocation, and performance reporting over the next four years.
“This plan gives us clear direction; it enforces our role as Council and helps bring consistency to the decisions we’ll be making over the next four years,” shared Mayor Laura Svab during the Council meeting. “This plan reflects a shared commitment to focused, accountable leadership and gives clarity to both Administration and our community about our priorities that will be moving forward. I look forward to using this plan to guide our work together.”
Councillors Aaron J. Hoyte, Jim Sands, and Shane Hanson also shared their appreciation and pride for the collaboration that shaped the Strategic Plan.
